Homeopathy Rising: A Step-by-Step Guide
A resource for both the beginner and the more advanced homeopathic practitioner.
Time to bring together all of the Homeopathy Rising posts (so far) into one searchable resource— with guidelines to help you find what you need, when you need it.
There have also been so many new subscribers to Homeopathy Rising over the past year (welcome!), and I realize that not everyone has time to explore the archives.
I‘ve formatted this article as a little ‘how to’ guide for using homeopathy— not just for the beginner, but also for the more advanced practitioner who is facing complicated cases and obstacles to cure.
Use all of the links provided below to take you directly to the information you need. You’ll also find links to relevant supportive resources.
Of course, this is my approach, not the approach to homeopathy. There is no one way, as is demonstrated clearly by the positive results that many homeopathic practitioners and laypeople get while utilizing many different methods.
1. Is There a Banerji Protocol?
Cut through the confusion. If there is a protocol, start with that.
Remember that many great homeopathic remedy options are ‘hiding’ within the protocols, as discussed here.
And remember there are almost always multiples ‘lines’ offered, so if some of the remedies don’t act, there will be more to try.
1a.) Acute Conditions
(Meaning— I need a remedy right now!)
First: If you have used homeopathic medicines for a condition that were helpful in the past, start there! (No reason to reinvent the wheel.)
Next: This INDEX includes free Banerji Protocols for many acute conditions and COVID/COVID-like situations. +Get more ideas for COVID/flus here.
Read: ‘Getting Started with Homeopathy’— This article covers many store-bought combinations that may help you in your search, plus other important details.
Remember: You can make your own homeopathic combinations using the pharmacy-made ones as a guide.
Read: ‘Combining Homeopathic Medicines’ for more ideas.
+Articles on specific conditions that include important homeopathic medicines for acute situations:
• ‘Topical Homeopathic Skin Care’ (SPACH and SPPACHH)
• ‘Whooping Cough (Pertussis)’ (includes info about dealing with coughs in general)
Also Search: Joette Calabrese’s Blog for acute remedies and Practical Homeopathy.
Tip: To find the best results on Joette’s site, open your search engine and type ‘joette’ plus whatever you are looking for. (For example, search: joette insomnia. Keeping in mind insomnia might also be found under sleeplessness. Always consider alternate search terms.)
If you still need more options: Check a Homeopathic Repertory. If using a repertory is new to you, I wrote an article on the topic here.
Other sites like Dr. Homeo can provide ideas, but keep in mind they are not necessarily referencing clinically-tested protocols— many sites are just pulling remedy details out of a Materia Medica and posting them to get clicks. That is not the same as ‘this homeopathic remedy specifically helped’ in a case such as the one you are dealing with.
Read this for how to dose acutes.
Read here for tips about using the Banerji Protocols. (What the different lines mean, what if I can’t find a potency, what is a Mother Tincture, etc.)
Also read: ‘Homeopathy and the Wet Dose Method’ for more details on my favorite method of giving homeopathy to people and animals.
See further down in this post for more free homeopathy education.
1b.) Chronic Conditions
(Meaning— This issue continues to bother me! Maybe every day, or it just shows up over and over again.)
Use this PROTOCOL INDEX to see what Banerji Protocols exist. You can search the page for terms. Remember to consider similar terms and conditions. For instance ‘gastro’ is a good search term to start with when looking for all things gut.
Then refer to the Banerji Protocol books for the specific homeopathic medicines—
These are the two reference books you will want to own:
Note: Don’t forget to check your Banerji Protocol book(s) for important corrections. Find the original corrections here, and updated corrections for the newer book here. (Also includes info on the only legit sources of Banerji Protocols and the definition of a ‘protocol’.)
Supportive Article: ‘Meet the Banerjis’— if you are new to the Drs Banerji and their work.
To use a protocol, we ideally want a matching diagnosis, or at least to be pretty sure what it is—
Say, an ear infection, just like you have dealt with in the past; or cellulitis— it sure looks and sounds like the description of it.
Whereas, Colitis and Ulcerative Colitis are conditions that are specifically diagnosed. These are not just tummy upset or symptoms that feel like it ‘might be’ colitis.
If you have an upset gut every time you eat restaurant foods, start with the general protocols/remedies, such as LycoArs and Nux Vomica, many of which can also be used chronically.
(There are no homeopathic remedies that are only acute or chronic. It just depends on the condition and the case.)
Read:
• ‘An Example of Using The Banerji Protocols’ (a case in action)
• ‘Combining Homeopathic Medicines’ (includes tons of examples and remedy ideas)
If you need a diagnosis, get one. It can be very helpful. Not always, but many times, knowing what a mystery skin issue actually is, or what is going on in a joint, or in your mouth, can be very illuminating.
Can’t find the exact diagnosis you are looking for in the Banerji books?—
Read: ‘Using the Banerji Protocols as a Template’
Read this for how to dose chronics.
Read this for loads of info on dosing homeopathy.
Read here for tips about using the Banerji Protocols. (What the different lines mean, what if I can’t find a potency, what is a Mother Tincture, etc.)

1c.) Chronic Cases with Acute Flare Ups
(Meaning— This condition continues to be a problem as a baseline, though it may be calmer at times and then get very bad acutely, even though it is technically the same condition. But this also applies to multiple conditions— where one is low grade all the time, and something else happens acutely that is unrelated.)
Use both acute and chronic homeopathy, as outlined in 1a and 1b above, and as explained more in-depth here. (← Read it for a real-world example.)
• Establish a baseline protocol for the chronic condition.
• Then add remedies as needed for acutes.
• Yes, all in the same daily plan.
Read: ‘How Many Remedies Can I Use at One Time?’
Many of the Banerji Protocols have this system ‘baked into’ them already, with a baseline plus acute remedy options.
You may also use a Banerji Protocol for the chronics, day in and day out, and then search for remedies that help with acutes (such as itch or pain), if the ones they offer fail to help, or there aren’t any, using a mix-and-match approach.
Read this for how to dose chronic plus acutes.
Read this for loads of info on dosing homeopathy. (FAQs and myth-busting too)
Read here for tips about using the Banerji Protocols. (What the different lines mean, what if I can’t find a potency, what is a Mother Tincture, etc.)
2. No Protocol?
Now you need to: 1) Find the homeopathic medicine(s); 2) Choose the potency and frequency for dosing; and 3) Determine how long to take them.
Sounds daunting, but it becomes much less so when we use the resources we already have.
Start with: ‘Using the Banerji Protocols as a Template’
For many conditions, we do not have to reinvent the wheel.
Found within the protocols are many clues that point to where to start.
Even if the condition is not to be found in the Banerji Protocols, and the protocols are not helpful in providing a template for the condition, once you do select a homeopathic remedy, you can reference how they use that remedy (potency and frequency) as a starting place.
Also read: ‘An Example of Using the Banerji Protocols’
At this point, you may find you need additional homeopathic resources:
• This is the Homeopathic Materia Medica I would buy if I could only have one.
• This is the Homeopathic Repertory I would buy to go with it.
• If you are a little bit tech saavy, and have the budget, this is the Repertory Software I use. (I also added Murphy’s Repertory to this software. And there are many other options— in case you have a different set you prefer to use.)
Read: ‘Getting Started with Homeopathy- Part 3’ for an introduction to using a homeopathic Materia Medica and Repertory.
Read: ‘Administering Homeopathic Medicines: Part 1 and Part 2’ for straight-forward information on how to dose for acute and chronic conditions (and both).
Read this for loads of info on dosing homeopathy. (And, yes, you can also keep your daily coffee and mint toothpaste!)
Also read: ‘Homeopathy and the Wet Dose Method’ for more details on my favorite method of giving homeopathy to people and animals.
3. You’ve Been Using The Protocols for a While Already…
And the results have been underwhelming, or the remedies stopped acting, or you aren’t sure what else to do.
Again, if you don’t have a diagnosis, it can be very helpful at this point to get one. (Just because you go to a doctor for the diagnostics, doesn’t mean you must take their advice.)
Tip: Be sure to go back and revisit the Banerji Protocols from time to time. Every single time I do, I notice something ‘new’ or see something with fresh eyes.
When remedies act for a while and then stop, or a person seems to be impervious to homeopathy, then we may have to consider sustaining causes and also look at using higher potencies.
When you feel like you need a sledgehammer to break through, consider sustaining causes!
Read the series:

‘Part 3— Obstacles to Cure: Drugs’
‘Part 4— Obstacles to Cure: Mercury’
‘Part 5— Obstacles to Cure: Root Canals and Cavitations’
Also read: ‘Introducing the Megapotencies’
Addressing these issues and exploring different potencies can lead to case progress and breakthroughs.
Also consider nosodes and addressing the ‘Cancer Diathesis’, if applicable
Step back and take a look at the whole picture— including the person’s environment, past and current exposures, emotionality and trauma history, diet and lifestyle factors (from eating junk food, to vaping, to overworking), family medical history, and drugs taken past or present. It can be helpful to create a timeline of events.
Bonus: Here’s an example of a case with sustaining causes:
A client of mine, who has various conditions he has been dealing with for many years (even decades), has responded in some aspects to his homeopathy plan, but not so much in others:
-His energy and joint and muscle issues definitely have improved a lot.
-His chronic migraines improve for a while, but go through phases where homeopathy isn’t enough to address them and he resorts to the use of pharmaceuticals. There is no clear cycle.
-His chronic solar plexus ‘anxiety’ is impervious to all remedies, except for the very occasional day after starting a new remedy where he has a heavenly break, and then it returns.
(I put anxiety in quotes because that is his internal sense of it. He has done many diagnostics over the years to rule out GERD and various other possible causes.)
As we dive deeper, it turns out he took Xanax a lot in the past, for debilitating anxiety, as well as other medications for assorted conditions. Of the three medications he is currently taking, two include side effects which also sound a lot like his current solar plexus symptoms.
However, he is not keen to discontinue these medications, as he has had major health scares in the past five years. But he will discuss with his doctors the possibility of testing to see how he feels without even just the evening doses. (The solar plexus anxiety is at its worst after 6 hours or sleep, no matter what time he goes to bed.)
He also has had virtually every COVID shot offered, and experienced serious seizures on two separate occasions after the first two injections. (He was found by his girlfriend, and emergency services had to be called.)
He was also recently hospitalized for acute pancreatitis. This could be from the shots (a listed side effect), or from a couple of the medications he is on (also listed as a possible ‘rare’ side effect). He did start the Banerji Protocol for pancreatitis to help him heal from that episode.
We cleared the vaccinations and Xanax using the Mueller Method. But then he got another COVID shot, which pretty well negated that, most likely. And, ideally, the Xanax would be cleared in reverse chronological order.
The fact that he is still currently taking medications means that we can’t see the true, clear picture, and I suspect that at least two of the three medications he takes daily may be causing side effects. There’s no point in trying to clear anything else until those daily, sustaining causes are removed, if they ever are.
(Although I have discussed these issues with him, it doesn’t totally sink in, in part due to his political beliefs, I’m afraid.)
In addition, within the last year, his dentist reported that he has multiple old, bad, cracked mercury fillings, multiple root canals, he needs crowns, and may also have an infected tooth.
Headaches and migraines are so linked to tooth problems, and the mercury and root canals can also both be linked to chronic anxiety. (See article links above.)
Of course, all of this dental work would be very expensive, and he has to see what he will be able to do. Like most people, he is not excited about the prospect of having a bunch of dental work done. He is also in his 70s, and for some reason people think it matters less after a certain age. (When I would say it matters even more, as symptoms such as terrible arthritis, tremors, memory loss and other conditions start to really affect quality of life. These are not just ‘old age’, but decades of exposures in many cases!)
In the meantime, I made him aware that certain foods, such as sugar and lemon (especially together) can be extremely aggravating to exposed dental nerves and amalgam fillings, causing acute headaches. He already knows that eating chocolate leads to migraines, which may be simply due to the sugar on the teeth. (And this fact still doesn’t prevent him from eating chocolate, which he loves.)
His anxiety symptoms and headaches usually come on overnight, and he wakes with both of them first thing in the morning.
This is often a symptom of mercury-amalgam issues. One, with mercury, things are generally worse at night. Two, when we sleep at night, we are stewing in the mercury juices, and breathing the vapors, versus being awake and talking and swallowing and eating which helps to at least disperse the concentrated effects.
And root canals cause so many chronic problems. Because the bacteria can move to any area of the body, we really can’t tease out which problems are linked to them until they are removed.
So, I keep this client on his baseline homeopathy, as he does feel better with it than without (as tested many times), and I continue to encourage him to address the sustaining-cause factors (medications and dental issues), and we experiment with other remedies to see if he can get additional support in the meantime.
In cases like this, management is the word, while we continue to work towards long-term solutions.
